An Opinion from Dr. Dan Briggs, President & CEO, Auragens

There comes a point in every emerging industry when it must decide what it wants to become.

Regenerative medicine has reached that moment.

Over the past several years, our team has quietly undertaken what I call Project Redwood, an ongoing effort to understand not only where regenerative medicine is today, but where it should be tomorrow. We have studied laboratories, manufacturing processes, treatment centers, regulations, scientific literature, quality systems, business models, and patient outcomes across multiple countries.

What we’ve learned has reinforced something I have come to believe deeply.

We are not simply building businesses. We are shaping the future of medicine.

That distinction matters.

Because with that opportunity comes an equally profound responsibility.

We Are Custodians, Not Consumers

The regenerative medicine community has been entrusted with one of the greatest opportunities in modern healthcare.

For perhaps the first time in history, medicine is beginning to move beyond treating disease toward restoring function. Instead of simply slowing decline, we are beginning to understand how to promote repair, regeneration, and healthier aging.

That opportunity does not belong to any one company: It belongs to humanity.

Every physician, scientist, laboratory professional, researcher, manufacturer, regulator, and treatment center serves as a temporary steward of this field.

Our responsibility should not be to extract as much value from regenerative medicine as possible.

Our responsibility should be to leave the field stronger than we found it.

Evidence Must Matter Again

One of the most concerning trends we have observed is the increasing disconnect between marketing and evidence.

Every clinic claims to be “the best.”

Every laboratory claims to have the highest quality.

Every manufacturer claims superiority.

Yet very few provide objective validation that supports those statements.

In medicine, confidence is not evidence.

Popularity is not evidence.

Followers are not evidence.

Awards are not evidence.

Only rigorous science, transparent quality systems, reproducible manufacturing, published research, and independently verified outcomes can begin to support extraordinary claims.

Patients deserve better than slogans; They deserve proof.

False Claims Carry Real Consequences

Perhaps even more concerning than exaggerated marketing are claims that knowingly misrepresent science in order to capture business.

When a patient is told something that is not supported by evidence…

When physicians are sold products under misleading pretenses…

When biologic products are marketed through complex business structures designed to obscure accountability…

The damage extends far beyond a single transaction.

Every misleading claim erodes public trust.

Every questionable product invites greater regulatory scrutiny.

Every shortcut taken by one organization makes life more difficult for those committed to doing things the right way.

This is not simply a business issue. It is an ethical one.

Healthcare should never reward whoever tells the most compelling story.

It should reward whoever delivers the safest and most effective care.

Collaboration Is Not Weakness

One of Project Redwood’s most surprising observations has been the amount of conflict within regenerative medicine.

Scientists arguing with physicians.

Clinics attacking laboratories.

Manufacturers criticizing researchers.

Professional rivalries consuming time that could otherwise be devoted to advancing patient care.

The irony is difficult to ignore.

Many of the brightest minds in regenerative medicine spend more energy debating one another than building the future together.

Competition has its place. It drives innovation. It encourages improvement.

But competition without collaboration slows progress.

History reminds us that medicine has always advanced fastest when knowledge was shared rather than protected.

The greatest breakthroughs were rarely the work of one individual.

They were the result of communities working toward a common purpose.

Regenerative medicine deserves that same spirit.

Facilities Matter. People Matter More.

Technology is advancing rapidly.

Manufacturing capabilities continue to improve.

Quality systems are becoming increasingly sophisticated.

These developments are exciting.

But they are still only tools.

The true differentiator has always been, and will always be, the people behind them.

Facilities do not create integrity.

People do.

Equipment does not create ethics.

People do.

Protocols do not create culture.

People do.

The future of regenerative medicine will not be determined by whichever laboratory purchases the newest equipment.

It will be determined by whether the people inside those laboratories choose integrity over convenience.

A Call to Those Doing It Right

This is not a call against anyone.

It is a call for something.

For higher standards.

For greater transparency.

For independent validation.

For meaningful research.

For responsible manufacturing.

For honest communication.

For shared learning.

For patient-first thinking.

There are remarkable physicians, scientists, laboratory professionals, entrepreneurs, and innovators throughout regenerative medicine who are quietly doing extraordinary work.

They are building quality systems.

Publishing meaningful research.

Investing in validation.

Accepting oversight.

Learning from one another.

Those individuals are not competitors.

They are partners in shaping an entirely new chapter of medicine.

They should know each other.

Work together.

Challenge each other.

Raise the standard together.

Because protecting regenerative medicine is far more important than protecting market share.

The Legacy We Leave

One day, regenerative medicine will simply be called medicine.

Future generations will not remember which clinic had the largest advertising budget or the most viral social media videos.

They will remember whether we built a field worthy of their trust.

Whether we placed patients above profits.

Whether we pursued truth instead of attention.

Whether we had the courage to challenge ourselves before others challenged us.

Project Redwood has reinforced a simple belief.

The future of regenerative medicine will not be won by the loudest voice.

It will be earned by the most trustworthy ones.

If we choose stewardship over self-interest…

Collaboration over division…

Evidence over marketing…

Integrity over expedience…

Then regenerative medicine may become one of the defining medical advances of our lifetime.

Not because any one company succeeded.

But because an entire community chose to do what was right.

And that is a future worth building together.
