Sports Recovery at Auragens

As Auragens has established itself as an industry leader in orthopedic injury and sports performance recovery, we wanted to share some of what has made us the choice of so many professional athletes. From the Big Four professional sports leagues in the USA to international professional organizations to the Olympics, we collaborate with the best so that we remain the best.

The patient results and the evidence-based research and papers we have published have allowed Auragens to not only reach and positively impact the elite professional athlete but also the weekend warrior. From golfer to pickleball enthusiast we have helped many get back to form after years of degeneration.

Breakdown of Reducing Occurrence of Tommy John Surgery

For a specific approach allow us to discuss Tommy John surgery. Perhaps the largest career ending surgery for a professional pitcher. In this instance we analyze, as we do with all our athletic injuries, how Auragens can be both a benefit in recovery, and in many cases, be a preventive solution to elongate an athlete’s elite performance.

Our analysis suggests that the early incorporation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into a preventative maintenance strategy for pitchers could significantly extend their careers. We estimate that this approach could add approximately 5,160 pitches to a pitcher’s career. This projection is based on the average number of pitches thrown per season by a starting pitcher (about 2,580) and assumes early intervention during an overuse cycle, such as the early diagnosis of tendon microtears.

However, it’s important to note that this estimate is subject to certain variables. For example, the introduction of breaking balls at a young age and inconsistent workload management are outliers that could negatively impact the projected outcome. While further research is necessary to validate these findings, the potential benefits of MSCs in preventing pitching injuries deserve serious consideration.

The formula we used looks something like this:

Risk per pitch = (Baseline Risk) * (Mechanics Factor) * (Fatigue Factor) * (Pitch Type Factor) * (Individual Factors)

We then aim to reduce the baseline risk with a time-dependent reduction strategy, assessed every six months, using a variable called the “MSC Factor,” which accounts for the reduction of inflammation and microtears following the initial treatment.

Some variables considered in this model include graft length required during surgery, whether the tear is partial or full, and other factors. The goal was to arrive at a simplified model or formula that effectively predicts the likelihood of needing Tommy John surgery over two seasons, starting from the early identification of a UCL issue.

For a deeper dive into all we recommend the Auragens’ authored book, which reached the #1 Best Seller spot in the Biotechnology category; Advancements in Athlete Injury Repair: The Role of Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

And we welcome all who are feeling the effects of competitive sports – whether on the professional level or in the backyard with grandchildren – to reach out and learn if Auragens is a good option for you.
