Osteoarthritis and Stem Cell Treatments

One study found that MSCs can help reduce cartilage damage and inflammation in the joints by secreting beneficial compounds and modulating the immune system (Lv et al., 2023). Another study reported that injecting MSCs into the joints of osteoarthritis patients led to less pain and improved joint function, with noticeable increases in cartilage volume (Chen & Chang, 2020). Researchers also discovered that the environment of the joint, the source of the MSCs, and other factors are crucial for the successful treatment of osteoarthritis with these stem cells (Jiang & Zuo, 2023). Additionally, MSCs were found to influence bone-resorbing cells, which could help in reducing joint damage further (Ibáñez et al., 2022).
